Our Marine Biology Program in Tenerife focuses on understanding marine ecosystems through a combination of theoretical lessons and enhanced underwater sampling via scuba diving. Participants follow a structured, day-by-day schedule that includes training sessions, scientific fieldwork, and participation in ongoing research projects.
All field activities are conducted under the supervision of a marine biologist and/or a certified PADI professional instructor. You will apply scientific methodologies across different marine environments, collecting and analyzing real data used in long-term research.
This internship provides hands-on, real-world experience designed to complement academic studies in marine biology, environmental sciences, or related fields. You will gain practical skills in marine ecology, conservation, underwater sampling techniques, and data analysis using scientific and statistical platforms.
Participants may obtain a PADI scuba certification or continue their diving education during the program. Our growing scientific database is available to those interested in developing academic or scientific papers.
Our Marine Biology Program lasts one month with the possibility of extending up to four consecutive months and is designed for both experienced and inexperienced divers. It is an adventure full of learning, laughter, and different fieldwork where the intern will learn the basic concepts of marine biology, marine conservation and diving.
Theoretical lessons are essential to carry out a research project in the best possible way; from explaining marine sampling methods to the biology of marine invertebrates, sea turtles and fish resident in the Atlantic Ocean to observing data and writing manuscripts. Within a month, interns will have acquired the knowledge and skills to collect various data using underwater marine sampling.
This program is designed for those who want to learn to dive in complete safety and for those who are already divers but want to deepen their underwater analysis and sampling skills.
See You Diving is based in Los Cristianos, on the island of Tenerife (Spain), just a short walk from Las Vistas Beach and the Port of Los Cristianos. Our fully equipped dive center includes modern Cressi scuba gear, a wet area, air compressor for tank refills, relaxation space, and a dedicated classroom.
The center hosts theoretical lessons, data analysis sessions, scientific writing activities, and preparation for underwater fieldwork. It functions as the operational and academic base for the entire Marine Biology Internship.
A significant part of the internship takes place at Abades, a protected marine reserve in the south of Tenerife where motorized boats are restricted. This protection creates a unique environment with high biodiversity and minimal human disturbance.
Underwater sampling is conducted in this area, focusing on seagrass meadows (phanerogams) and rocky-bottom communities. These ecosystems play a key role in marine health and carbon absorption.
Using vertical and horizontal transects, photographic records, and methodologies introduced during in-person lessons, participants collect, process, and analyze scientific data directly in the field.
This Marine Biology Internship is designed for biology students, recent graduates, and aspiring marine scientists seeking applied field experience. The program is structured around two core research areas: seagrass ecosystems and hard-bottom marine communities.
