Who Can Apply?
Do I need to be a certified diver to join the internship?
Yes. Participants are required to have an Open Water Diver certification before taking part
in the scientific diving activities of the internship.
If you are not yet certified, you can obtain your Open Water Diver certification with See You
Diving before starting the internship.
The program is designed for both experienced divers and people who are relatively new to
diving. Our goal is to help you become comfortable underwater while developing your
scientific diving and marine biology skills.
Do I need to be currently enrolled at university?
No. Although the internship is particularly suitable for university students studying Marine
Biology, Environmental Sciences or related subjects, you do not necessarily have to be
currently enrolled at university.
The program is also suitable for recent graduates, aspiring marine scientists and people
who want to gain practical experience in marine biology, conservation and scientific diving.
Do I need to study Marine Biology?
No. You do not have to study Marine Biology specifically.
The internship is particularly relevant for students and graduates in Marine Biology,
Biology, Environmental Sciences and other related fields. However, we also welcome
people with a strong interest in marine science, conservation and scientific diving.What matters most is your motivation to learn and actively participate in the fieldwork.
What academic background do I need?
There is no specific degree required to participate.
The internship is designed primarily for students, recent graduates and aspiring marine
scientists with an interest in marine biology, marine ecology, environmental sciences and
conservation.
The program combines theoretical lessons with practical fieldwork, allowing you to
develop the knowledge and skills needed to participate in the research activities.
What is the minimum age to join the internship?
You must be at least 18 years old to participate in the Marine Biology Internship.
Is the internship suitable for beginners?
Yes. The program is designed for both experienced and inexperienced divers.
You will receive theoretical and practical training before taking part in scientific underwater
sampling. Our team will guide you through the different techniques and methodologies
used during the fieldwork.
If you are new to scientific diving, the internship is an opportunity to develop your
confidence and skills underwater while learning how marine research is conducted in the
field.
Do I need previous marine biology experience?
No previous professional experience in marine biology is required.
The internship combines classroom-based learning with practical fieldwork, allowing you
to develop your knowledge of marine ecology, conservation, species identification,
underwater sampling and scientific data analysis throughout the program.
Do I need previous scientific diving experience?
No. Previous scientific diving experience is not required.
You will be introduced to the underwater sampling techniques and methodologies used
during the internship. The program is designed to help participants develop practical skills
in scuba-assisted data collection and scientific underwater research.
Scuba Diving
Can I do my Open Water certification with you?
Yes. If you are not already a certified diver, you can obtain your Open Water Diver
certification with See You Diving before starting the internship.

your internship begins.
How many dives will I do during the internship?
During the four-week program, you will complete 16 certified dives:
The dives are designed not only to explore Tenerife’s marine environment, but also to
develop practical skills in underwater observation, sampling and scientific data collection.
14 shore dives
1 night dive
1 boat dive
Diving equipment is included in the program.
Will I learn scientific diving techniques?
Yes. Scientific diving is one of the core components of the internship.
You will learn and practise underwater sampling techniques, scuba-assisted data
collection, species identification, habitat assessment and scientific data recording.
The practical training is combined with theoretical lessons, so you understand not only
how to collect data underwater, but also how to process, analyse and interpret it
afterwards.
Will I dive every day?
No. The internship combines diving with theoretical lessons, data analysis, scientific
writing and other activities.
The exact schedule varies throughout the program depending on the research activities
and conditions.
Do I need to own my own diving equipment?
No. Diving equipment is included in the internship.
You are welcome to bring your own scuba equipment if you have it, but this is not required.
We provide the equipment needed for the included dives.3. Marine Biology & Research
What will I actually do during the internship?
You will combine classroom learning with practical marine biology fieldwork.
During the internship, you will:
Participate in scientific dives and underwater sampling
Collect scientific data from marine ecosystems
Study seagrass meadows and rocky-bottom communities
Learn species identification and habitat assessment
Process and analyse data collected underwater
Learn scientific research methodologies
Develop scientific communication and reporting skills
Work on the preparation of a scientific manuscript
The goal is to give you practical experience in what marine biology fieldwork actually looks
like.
Will I work with professional marine biologists?
Yes.
The field activities are conducted under the supervision of a marine biologist and/or
certified PADI professional instructor.
You will receive guidance throughout the process, from theoretical preparation and
underwater sampling to data analysis and scientific writing.
Will I participate in real scientific research?
Yes.
Participants collect and analyse real scientific data as part of ongoing research projects.
Our research focuses particularly on seagrass ecosystems and rocky-bottom marine
communities. The data collected during the fieldwork contributes to our growing scientific
database and can potentially support future academic and scientific publications.
Will I work with seagrass meadows?
Yes.
One of the main research areas of the internship is seagrass ecosystems.
A significant part of the fieldwork takes place in Abades, Tenerife, where participants
conduct underwater sampling in seagrass meadows and rocky-bottom communities.You will learn how to collect, process and analyse scientific data from these ecosystems.
Can I use the internship for my university thesis or dissertation?
Yes.
The internship can provide a practical foundation for developing a thesis, dissertation or
scientific publication.
You will receive mentoring and academic support throughout the process, including
guidance on fieldwork, data analysis and scientific manuscript writing.
If you are considering using the internship as part of your thesis, we recommend
discussing your project with us before your arrival so we can explore how the internship
can support your objectives.
Will I receive a certificate at the end of the internship?
Yes.
At the end of the internship, you will receive a signed and stamped certificate of
participation.
Reference letters may also be available upon request.
Duration & Dates
How long does the internship last?
The minimum internship duration is 4 weeks.
You can extend your stay for up to 4 consecutive months, depending on availability.

Can I stay for more than one month?
Yes.
The program can be extended from the initial four-week period up to a maximum of four
consecutive months.Longer stays allow you to develop your skills further and become more involved in marine
biology fieldwork, data analysis and scientific research.
Can I choose my starting date?
We have specific internship start dates throughout the year.

Erasmus+ & Universities
Can I do the internship through Erasmus+?
Yes.
Our Marine Biology Internship can be used as an Erasmus+ internship.
We encourage students to contact their university’s International, Placement or Erasmus+
office to explore available funding opportunities.
We can provide the necessary internship information and documentation required by your
university, depending on its requirements.
Can my university approve this internship?
Yes. Many students use the internship as part of their university studies.
If your university requires specific documentation, learning agreements or other paperwork,
please contact us before booking so we can discuss your requirements and provide the
relevant information.
Can I receive ECTS credits for the internship?
ECTS recognition depends on your university and degree program.
We recommend contacting your university before applying to confirm whether the
internship can be recognised for academic credits.
Accommodation & Life in Tenerife
Is accommodation included in the internship price?
No. Accommodation is not included in the internship price, giving you the flexibility to
choose the option that best suits your needs and budget.However, we have agreements with several hostels within walking distance of our diving
centre, where our interns can benefit from special rates.
We can help you arrange accommodation before your arrival and recommend the options
that best suit your needs.
Do I have to stay in one of your partner hostels?
No. You are completely free to choose your own accommodation in Tenerife.
Some interns prefer to stay in one of our partner hostels because of the special rates and
convenient location, while others prefer to arrange their own apartment, room or other type
of accommodation.
If you would like to stay in one of our partner hostels, we can provide you with the available
options and help you arrange your stay.
Are meals included in the internship?
No. Meals are not included in the internship price.
Our partner hostels have shared kitchens and refrigerators, allowing interns to prepare and
store their own food.
There are also supermarkets, restaurants and other food options nearby, so you can
choose the option that works best for your budget and lifestyle.
How far is the accommodation from the diving centre?
Our partner hostels are located within walking distance of our diving centre, making it easy
to get to the centre without needing a car.
This is particularly convenient for interns who are coming to Tenerife without their own
transportation.
Do I need a car during the internship?
No, having a car is not essential.
Our partner hostels are within walking distance of our diving centre, so you can easily
attend the internship without having your own vehicle.
However, having access to a car can give you more freedom to explore Tenerife during
your free time. Many interns also use public transport or other local transportation options

Application Process
How do I apply for the internship?
Applying is simple.

interview.
During the interview, we will learn more about your background, interests and goals and
answer any questions you may have about the program.If the internship is a good fit for you, you can then secure your place.
Places are limited, with only 8–10 participants available depending on the program period.
Do I need an interview?
Yes.
As part of the application process, we arrange an online interview with each candidate.
The interview allows us to understand your interests and experience, explain the program
in more detail and make sure the internship is a good fit for you.
How far in advance should I apply?
We recommend applying as early as possible.
The internship has limited availability, with only a small number of places available for
each program period.
If you are planning to join through Erasmus+ or another university funding program, we
recommend starting the process early so you have enough time to complete your
university’s paperwork and funding application.
How many internship places are available?
Places are limited.
We generally accept a small group of interns for each program period, with approximately
8–10 places available.
This allows us to maintain a practical, hands-on learning environment and provide
individual guidance during fieldwork.
Can I apply with a friend?
Yes. You can apply together with a friend or classmate.
If you would like to attend the same internship period, we recommend applying early
